In the early 1930s, Helene Winterstein Kambersky, née Vierthaler, invented the world's first waterproof mascara.

Before her invention, the celebrated singer's life was filled with a love of opera and music. A love that was probably born in her cradle, as her great-great-grandfather Michael Vierthaler was a student of Mozart's father Leopold and Joseph Haydn and a sponsor of Franz Schubert.

During her numerous appearances, she repeatedly made the painful experience of how quickly the stage make-up melted away under the influence of headlight heat and left black marks.

Driven by the untenability of this situation, she began developing the perfect mascara in her own kitchen. After about 2,000 attempts, the time had finally come: the first patented, waterproof mascara in the world was invented and heralded a new era in eye cosmetics.

After a serious illness, confined to a wheelchair, her courage and inventiveness were the key and impetus for her second career as a highly successful entrepreneur. Numerous own further developments and product innovations followed and always had one thing in common: the products withstood all external influences and were easy on the eyes and skin. For example, she developed a recipe for a cosmetics company.
